Currency of United States

The U.S. dollar is the currency of United States. USD is the currency code. Few other countries have accepted the U.S dollar as official and legal currency. Countries like British Virgin Island, East Timor, Ecuador, El Salvador, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Palua, Panama, Turks and Caicos Island has gone through dollarization. Dollar is also used as the standard unit of currency in the international market. The currencies of United States are available in bank notes and coins. The symbol of $ is used before numerical value in case of dollar. The recent circulating coins are $0.01, $0.05, $0.10, $0.25, $0.50 and $1.00. Bullion and Commemorative coins are also minted in the country.Currently, printed denominations of the Federal Reserve Notes are $1, $2, $5, $10, $50 and $100.
Dollar of United States remains world's foremost reserve currency. Majority of U.S. notes are held outside the United States. All holdings of U.S. dollars in foreign bank deposits held by non-residents of the United States are known as Eurodollars. Currency conversion can be done at several places like banks, five star hotels and money changers. There is a nominal fee for currency conversion in the banks. ATM counter is found in every city.

Some countries link their currency to U. S. dollar at a fixed exchange rate. Local currencies of Bermuda and Bahamas can be freely exchanged at 1:1 ratio for USD. Argentine peso is also exchanged at 1: 1 ratio with USD. Several oil producing countries like Gulf Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, peg their currency to dollar. In Mexico's border area and major tourist zones USD is accepted. Most stores in Canada also accept U.S. dollar.

More and more foreign investors are attracted by the economic stature of United States. Financial stability and sound economic polices are supported by the U. S. government. Foreign companies like Airbus list and sell their products in U.S. dollars.
