Transportation Turkey

Turkey is a well known nation that attracts several tourists from all over the world. There are several fine aspects of Turkey that delight the guests entirely. The transportation of Turkey is of special significance and is quite well organized and promptly presents the tourists as well as the citizens with a smooth journey. Transportation of any nation should be upgraded so as to result in the smooth functioning of that particular nation. Turkey firmly knows this and also fully believes in this. Thus the transportation services featured in Turkey are quite advanced and modern. The TCDD or the Türkiye Devlet Demir Yollari happens to be the Turkish Republic Railways and possess a total of 10,984 kilometers of 1435 mm gauge out of which 2,336 kilometers are electrified.
They manifest a modern as well as global side of the Turkish transport. In 2004 the Marmaray project started a rail tunnel under the Bosphorus straits. This is one of the most important modes of transportation of Turkey. A high speed railroad line is being constructed between the Turkish cities of Ankara and Istanbul. The high speed railroad would be right next to the normal speed railroad and that is being renovated as well.

After the completion of the construction of the high speed railroad, the travel time between the two major cities will be reduced from 6.5 hours to 3 hours and 10 minutes. Trains have been ordered from Spain that can reach up to 250 kilometers per hour. There are plans and proposals of the construction of a high speed railroad line between Ankara and Konya. This way, the other two cities would also be connected with a direct line and quite naturally reduce travel time from several hours to approximately one hour. Other high speed and normal railroad projects are currently in the planning stage and are in blue plan format.

There are a few underground railway systems operating in select Turkish cities and these also are major modes of transportation of Turkey. The cities that have the privilege of underground railway systems are Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, and Adana. Apart from the above mentioned transportation routes there are numerous private bus companies that provide connections between cities in Turkey. In case of local trips to villages the dolmuses that are but small vans that seat about twenty passengers are at your service.
