Turkey is a well known and well visited nation. This is a Eurasian country that stretches across the Anatolian peninsula. The nation of Turkey borders a total of eight countries. The countries bordering Turkey include Bulgaria to the northwest; Greece to the west, Georgia in the north eastern side; Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran to the eastern side. The nations of Iraq and Syria lie to the southeastern side of Turkey. The Mediterranean Sea and Cyprus both lie to the southern side while the Aegean Sea and Archipelago lie to the west. The great Black Sea lies to the northern side.The territory of Turkey stretches well over 1600 kilometers and is inclusive of lakes, that occupies 783,562 square kilometers. Out of which 755,688 square kilometers are in the Southwestern part of Asia and 23,764 square kilometers in Europe.Turkey therefore becomes a trans
continental country. The area of Turkey makes it the world's 37th-largest country. This nation is about the size of Metropolitan France and the United Kingdom both combined together. Turkey is encircled by seas from three sides. These vast water bodies include the Aegean Sea to the west, the Black Sea to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Turkey also contains the Sea of Marmara in the northwestern direction.

Turkey features a Mediterranean temperate climate. The country experiences hot, dry summers and mild wet winters. The conditions can get harsher in the arid interior. There are several mountains situated close to the coast that automatically prevent Mediterranean influences from extending inland. The interior of the nation experiences a continental climate with distinct seasons. The central Anatolian Plateau is highly subject ed to extremes than coastal areas. The winters on the plateau are especially severe and freezing to say the least.

The last survey done in 2007 reveals the population of Turkey stood at 70.5 million. The average population density is 92 here. The Turkish province of Istanbul has the highest population density. There are 2,420 persons per square kilometer in Istanbul. The proportion of the population living in cities is 70.5 % and it's interesting to know that half of Turkey's population is below the age of 28.3. Citizens falling within the 15-64 age groups constitute 66.5 % of the total population while the 0-14 age group corresponds to 26.4 % of Turkey's population. The senior citizens with 65 years of age or above constitute the remaining 7.1 % of the total population.

The Türkiye Devlet Demir Yollari comprises of a sub total of 10,984 kilometers of 1435 mm gauge. Out of which 2,336 kilometers are electrified. In the year 2004, Marmaray project was started on a rail tunnel under the Bosphorus straits. There are many private bus companies that aptly provide connections between cities in Turkey. For local trips to villages you can utilize dolmuses that are nothing but small vans that seat about twenty passengers.
