Climate of Austria

The Climate of Austria is highly influenced by its geography. This country is encircled by a number of European countries. The presence of the Alps has deep impact on the geography and climate of the country. The Central Eastern Alps, Southern Limestone Alps and Northern Limestone Alps are found here. Apart from the eastern and some of the western parts, the land is covered with the ranges and cliffs of the Alps. Owing to this, the Climate of Austria features typical Alpine climate. The Climate of Austria is generally temperate but varies from the eastern plain to the Alpine region. Summer can be long with average temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C.The average temperatures in winter are around 0°. Snow on the mountains in spring and autumn is not
uncommon. Vienna enjoys a mild climate, with an occasional gentle breeze that blows from the surrounding Wienerwald.

The moist western wind which is very common in the Alpine areas, blow over the country. The eastern part is comparatively even than the other areas. Typical continental climate is enjoyed here. All the common features of this type of climate can be experienced here. As a feature of Alpine climate, winter prevails over the country. Though summer lasts for a very short period, but it is very pleasant. The Atlantic maritime climate exercises influence on the Climate of Austria also. Mild air and rainfall are some of the characteristics of this climate.

The Climate of Austria features four seasons among which winter prevails for a long time. Summer is bearable and the average temperature during this season varies between 20 to 35 degrees Celsius. July and August are the hottest months. The winter is cold and heavy snowfall is expected in this season. January and February are the coldest months.

The period between December and April witnesses the best of the winter months in Austria. This is the best time to enjoy the exciting winter sports. The period is popularly known as the ski season. If mountaineering and hiking excite you more, then visit the country during summer when the mountains are free from the snow. Summer is extremely comfortable. The country is full of life and color during this season.
