Austria is one of the major European countries. The history of Austria dates back to the ninth century. The country experienced a rebellious period in the Prehistoric and the Middle Ages. The majestic Danube is passing through the heart of the country. Humid westerly winds rule over the major part of the landmass. All the features of typical Alpine climate can be enjoyed here. The continental climate prevails in the valley and plain areas.

Austria features a parliamentarian government. Nine federal states come together to form a federal republic. The states are divided into several districts, cities and municipalities. Vienna is the capital of the country. Austria comes in the category of world's richest countries. Tourism is a major means of earning foreign exchange. The country is a member of the United Nations and the European Union. After joining the European Union, the economy of the country has been on a boom.

Earlier, Roman Catholics had a great influence on Austrian religion. Politics was immensely influenced by the religion. From the mid twentieth century, secularism comes into action and politics has come out of the influence of religion. Austria is the birthplace of many bright musicians. The country is the native land of Mozart, Franz Schubert, Joseph Haydn, Anton Bruckner, Sr., Johann Strauss, Johann Strauss and Gustav Mahler. Several masterminds of literature and science have their root in this country.

Austria is a popular tourist destination. Apart from the beautiful natural sites, the country has a number of historic landmarks. The mountainous land is ideal for skiing, hiking, mountaineering and exciting winter sports.
